The Story
Science Fiction starts, strangely, at the end. Or maybe it really is the beginning? ("Is It The Beginning?") A side effect of travelling through time and space that might make sense later. Immediately we're thrown into a world on the brink of global war. After years of being governed by controlling minds with differing opinions, conflict has struck. ("War") A frantic world dives underground for protection, lamenting their destruction ("After The Fall") and longing for a life outside ("Fallout"). It is here that we are introduced to our protagonist, a scientist who had to choose between fulfilling their selective service, or flee. Just as the bombs start to fall, our protagonist was able to make their escape to another world. They spend an unknown amount of time in a capsule, lost in the space between worlds ("Between").
Our protagonist crash lands in a state of dysphoria. They begin walking aimlessly through the suburban streets, searching for answers ("Walking"). Their search eventually leads them into a metropolis where everyone is entranced in a fantasy world on their electronic devices ("Citadel"). A distraction created by unseen authority figures. Even the rebels and artists of this citadel are unknowingly under the spell of these controlling minds and can't seem to do anything to fight it ("Control").
This can't be right. This feels like a dystopia straight out of some movie ("Science Fiction"). Is this the future of the world our protagonist left behind, or have they gone back in time to before the war? The only thing that feels grounding is our protagonist's anachronistic love of music and vintage synthesizers ("Time Travel"). All it takes is a single touch. So has this story concluded, or has it only just begun? ("Or Is It The End?")
